            8th grade History

Nathan Hale on the gallows, Molly Pitcher at the cannon, Betsy Ross with her flag, and Gen. Washington crossing the Delaware;  these were some of the topics of the eighth grade history projects.

Their dioramas tried to accurately depict scenes from the American Revolutionary War. Many students displayed interesting creativity making their projects.  Each student   presented their project before the class and answered questions as well.

Today we celebrated Veteran’s Day by having Mr. Ralph Corley, a naval veteran from World War II, speak to the eighth grade about his experience aboard the USS De Haven  DD-469.  His story was about being rescued from the ship after it was bombed by Japanese planes in the South Pacific.  Being only seventeen years old, he was trained in the operation of sonar.  And he was one of a few men to survive the sinking of his ship.  The students listen to his story intently and asked pertinent questions after his speech.  We hope to have Mr. Corley back next year.
