We met last Friday September 9th and started our group discussion over Chapter 1.  For our business and other topics we discussed the possibility of Adoration every 3rd Wednesday and share this day with other groups such as St. Ann, Mother's club etc...  Stacey brought in a book called, "Trump of the Heart" Put on the Armor of God.  If you would like one there will be more coming!  In the beginning of our discussion we talked about the difference between right and wrong and that God loves us as his Father and tells us what is right and wrong.  "Love the sinner but hate the sin"  We also discussed that being kind but not compromising your virtues is a difficult balance in todays world but understanding that God loves us and is with us through all trials in our life gives us the courage to face certain challenges.  We talked about Steve Wood who has a program on Catholic Radio, "Faith and Family" and he quoted statistics that 84% of couples want to know if they are compatible with there significant other, however they go ahead and live together, and or worry about all the details of the wedding instead of really finding out if they truly are compatible.... We then talked about objective and subjective reality.  Objective reality is tangible and the truth where Subjective reality leads us to Relativism or "what I think". (I feel replaces, I believe) This led us to thinking about the idea of "Once saved always saved"  falls under objective reality.  Another discussion came up about the benefits of fasting either for yourself or for someone else and how powerful that can be.  Another key to fasting is to start out small and work your way up to longer periods of time.    We will discuss pages 37-56 for our next meeting on 9/23/16

We met today to start our new year with prayer and fellowship along with Food.... Thank you everyone who brought food to share.  We took care of some business including involving others in the group to help find a new babysitter.
If you did not attend and know someone who would be interested that would be great! Please refer to the dates listed below for whoever is interested.  We pay $20 a meeting, so that may be some incentive.  We talked about the "Holy Doors" for this year of Mercy.  If anyone is interested in a pilgrimage this would be a good time to do so.  Please visit: http://archstl.org/node/4381621 to view the pilgrimage sites nearby.

What are the “Prescribed Conditions” for Receiving an Indulgence?

The Jubilee Year Indulgence is a plenary indulgence and can be sought once a day for one's self or for the souls of the deceased. The Church’s usual conditions for gaining an indulgence apply in connection with the Jubilee Indulgence.

plenary indulgence can be gained only once a day.  In order to obtain it, the faithful must:

  • be in a state of grace (free from mortal sin);
  • have the interior disposition of complete detachment from sin, even venial sin; striving to avoid venial sin;
  • have sacramentally confessed their sins (either 20 days prior or following the indulgenced act).  One sacramental Confession suffices for several plenary indulgences.
  • receive Holy Communion on the same day the indulgence is sought.  Preferably, this reception will be while participating in Holy Mass; and
  • pray for the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff; prayer for the Pope's intentions is left to the choice of the faithful, but an "Our Father" and a "Hail Mary" are suggested.  It is preferable that the prayer for the Pope's intentions be said on the same day as the indulgenced act.
Here is the link for the Pope's intentions for this year of Mercy..

Looking forward to our next meeting on September 9th!
