MERRY CHRISTMAS

We had our last meeting of 2010, during which we finished off our study of The Book of Revelation by covering chapters 17 - 22.  We had some interesting discussion about where "Babylon" exists in the 21st century.  Some countries and organizations were named, but also many philosophies and attitudes that are common in our culture - such as relativism, secularism, materialism and bullying.  There was agreement that the Church is an important modern-day prophet that calls for change in these places/ideas.

When discussing the darker, more violent sections of the reading, we were reminded that these passages were written to console and give hope to the early Christians who were suffering at the hands of the Roman Empire.  The major theme is punishment for the wicked and vindication for the righteous.  It was brought out that, when we read these passages, if we identify more with those being punished than with those being vindicated, we might need to make some changes!

HAPPY NEW YEAR

We'll meet again on Friday, January 14 in the meeting room in the church basement.  Be prepared to get started on Scott Hahn's The Last Supper.  Or don't be prepared, but come anyway to participate or just soak it in!  Maureen will be facilitating.  We'll be covering up to and including page 13 in the book, which is to the end of chapter 1.
