WEEK OF NOVEMBER 22, 2010

posted Nov 19, 2010 10:32 AM by School Website

As you all hopefully have noted, there will be no school on Wednesday, November 24th.  We exceeded our goal and sold over $40,000 worth of Scrip.  The Scrip Committee had asked for 100% participation, and with the help of the staff and pre-school, we made that.

Some families were credited with a large purchase that had been made a few days before.

Our half day off school does not indicate in any way that our education here at St. Paul is not important.

Which leads me to the next piece of business.  I hosted the Principals’ Region 4 meeting this week at St. Paul.  One of the schools, Sacred Heart in Eureka, did a presentation on becoming a Blue Ribbon School.  I have thought about this for some time, and I have the card on my desk about it.  With School Improvement Process underway, I did not want to take on another major task.

However, I took the criteria for this year (which has changed from previous years) to see where our school would place, and if we would even be eligible.  Former criteria was based on 8th grade standardized test scores.  Now the criteria is based on all grades tested standardized test scores.  Our school would be eligible since we score in the top 15% of the nation!  I will definitely apply next year after we receive our standardized test scores.  You should be very proud of your children.

Thanks to all of the families and students for the donations for Thanksgiving.  We have huge boxes of food to donate to St. Vincent de Paul and Circle of Concern.

The 6th, 7th and 8th grades had a wonderful experience going to the St. Patrick Center.  It was much different than what we all thought.  The building is beautiful, and they work so hard to rehabilitate and assist people to get back into the workforce and living on their own.  I would like to do something in the coming months to donate money to the Key Player Program.

We have some new students to join our veteran ambassadors.  Our ambassadors for the school are:  Sam Himstedt, Emily Snyder, Maggie Whealen, Trey Schamburg, Haley Schwartz, Nathan Bira, Wils Schamburg, Bailey Vierling, Nathan Higgins and Rachel Bartnett.  Congratulations!

All the candy collected from Halloween  made 600 bags that will be given to families with their Thanksgiving baskets.  The Kindergarten also collected 30 pounds of lollipops that were sent to our military overseas.

Lifetouch will be sending home Holiday Packets for you.  You may purchase the items they send, or you may send them back to school to be returned.

Congratulations to Brynn LaMear.  Brynn is a figure skater and will be competing this weekend in Kalamazoo, Minnesota.  She has worked very hard to pursue her highest competitive goals in synchronized skating.  She has been training for some time now while keeping her grades up, too!  We wish her luck to bring back some medals!!

Have a very blessed and happy Thanksgiving!

Mrs. Pam Brown

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 8, 2010

posted Nov 4, 2010 7:19 AM by School Website   [ updated Nov 7, 2010 7:43 PM ]

Report card conferences went well with the new format.  Thank you for adjusting.

It was brought to my attention that there are some concerns about using student names and schedules on our website for security purposes.  In the beginning of the year, we had every family sign a media sheet allowing for us to use your child's name or picture in the media.  I will also try to be very careful with that.  If you notice, I leave my notes on the website, and in going over them, I did not see anything inappropriate.  There are really no specifics on the calendar that would allow for your child to be in harm's way.

This week the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades will be going to a concert at the Sheldon on Tuesday.  We will continue on with lunch and trips to the Science Center and the Sculpture Park.

Wednesday we will have Vision and Hearing Screening for those families who signed up for it.

Thursday is Veteran's Day.  Thank you to all of those veteran's who served  our country for us.  We will have an all school Mass at 8:00 a.m. to celebrate in their honor.  Since the boys won the Box Tops contest, they will get an ice cream treat after lunch on Thursday.

Friday is a dress down day for the NUT cards that were purchased at the Trivia Night.

Have a terrific weekend with your family and friends!

Blessings,

Mrs. Brown

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 2, 2010

I hope everyone had a great 3 day weekend.

Tuesday we have an All School Mass at 8:00 a.m.  There will also be a School Improvement Process meeting for the Institutional Committee after school.

Wednesday the Bookmobile is here.  There will be a School Improvement Process meeting for Catholic Identity after school.

Thursday we have report card conferences.  Be sure to print off your child's report card from FastDirect.  Students dismiss at noon with teachers having lunch until 12:30 p.m.  Teachers will also take a dinner break from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m.  ALL CONFERENCES WILL BE HELD IN THE PARISH CENTER.

Friday there is no school.

We have a Speech Meet at St. Gabriel's on Saturday, and there is an Open House on Sunday for High Schools.

Shorts are no longer to be worn to school.  We will resume shorts on April 1, 2011.

Many thanks to Mrs. Gnade for the Market Day pie sale.  We exceeded our quota, and our profit will be $3100!  There were 3 top sellers of pies.  They each sold 18 pies.  They will receive gift cards to Walmart.

We were blessed to receive a $750.00 Grant from Mobile-on-the-Run.  The money shall be applied to Math, Science and Technology.  So we are going to use this for International Day which will be held on Friday, February 25th.  More information will be coming your way in the future.

WEEK OF OCTOBER 25, 2010

Thanks to those of you attended the PTO meeting on Thursday evening.  We had two good speakers from Junior Achievement and the St. Patrick Center.  The Kindergarten parent attendance was very good to see the video for the coalition requirement.

Our standardized test results are in from Riverside.  You will receive the individual student copy at report card conferences which will ALL be held in the parish center on November 4th.  Our scores are very good; especially the Math scores.  All scores have improved from last year.  I attribute this to the Saxon Math Program and the fine teachers who were willing to put forth the effort to try something new.  Everyone should receive the results in the Friday folder.  Look at the packet that says Class of 20xx to determine how your child's class has done over the last 3 years.  The other packet is the result of how each 8th, 7th, etc., did in that particular year.

Everyone will be able to access your account with Food Service on FastDirect.  Letters are coming home with your account number.  Please go to Links and click it.  Then click on Lunch Card Balances.  You will find your account number with the balance on your student's card.

I have several meetings next week and will be out on Wednesday and Thursday mornings.  Friday will be a "big" day.  We will have the Walk-A-Thon for Diabetes.  The primary grades will have their Halloween parties while the upper grades have the Halloween costume contest.  WE NEED MORE CONTESTANTS!!  We cannot have a contest without more people.  Come on and have some fun!

Thanks to Mrs. Grabowski we will be selling 10 oz. bottles of water to the students in the cafeteria beginning November 2nd for $.15.  Dierberg's is working with us to provide water at this low cost for the students.

Our food drive for St. Vincent de Paul was overwhelming.  Thank you so much.  The men came to pick up all of our items and were so elated.  They could not believe how much they had to stock their shelves.  I told them we would be doing another food drive for Thanksgiving for them, and they said they would need more by then.  Once again, thank you so much.

Happy Halloween!!

There is no school on Monday, November 1st.  School will resume on the 2nd of November.  We will begin some School Improvement Process meetings this week with committees.

Report card conferences are November 4th, and November 5th is a no-school day.

Mrs. Crowe is in need of egg cartons for her art projects.  If anyone has egg cartons, please send them to school.

Blessings to all,

Mrs. Pam Brown

Dear God,
It is easy to love my family and friends when times are good and things are going well.  Help me to love them when the going gets tough.  Teach me to love them as You love them:  freely, expecting nothing in return.  Amen.

WEEK OF OCTOBER 18, 2010

Welcome to the new St. Paul News.  I will post activities for the week on this website in addition to the FastDirect calendar.

Tuesday, October 19th we will have an all school Mass at 8:00 a.m.  There will be a Confirmation meeting for the 8th grade school and PSR parents at 6:45 p.m.  Father Jim will be the presenter.

Thursday, October 21st is our PTO meeting.  I have provided for two speakers to present.  One is from Junior Achievement and the other is from St. Patrick Center.  I will also provide the Kindergarten coalition movie for Kindergarten parents.  Babysitting will be provided in the Kindergarten rooms by the Girl Scouts.

Friday is the end of our Second Quarter.

Saturday is the Trunk or Treat for our school.

This week we will be collecting items for the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.  Their shelves are nearly empty, and they have no money.  The children can bring items such as spaghetti sauce, chili, canned beef stew, canned chicken and dumplings, paper towels, toilet paper and laundry detergent. Monetary donations are accepted.  I thought that the students could do this as service without a dress down day or a reward.  Hopefully, we can teach them stewardship.

Thanks so much for your attendance at McDonalds.  We will receive a check for $681.00.

Blessings to all of you for a great week!
